Oranjestad, a bustling harbor city, a distinctive blend of old and new, Aruba’s capital truly has a unique charm. Oranjestad’s streets and malls are dotted with international luxury retailers, diverse boutiques, and dazzling jewelry stores. Fascinating restored landmark buildings are found along the way, such as the green “stadhuis” housing the City Hall where marriages are performed. A scenic linear park lines the coast from Oranjestad to the airport.
A new state-of-the-art tram begins at the cruise terminal, meandering through town, all along the sparkling new landscaped Main Street. Oranjestad is also a jumping nightlife mecca, filled with restaurants, cafes, clubs, lounges, bars and casinos. There is truly something for everyone and we can help you maximize your time in Aruba. Our tourism friendly city has even allowed Eco Destination Management Services to shut down the entire downtown area for private functions in our newly renovated public spaces. San Nicolaas, Aruba’s second largest city, owes its success to the former oil refinery that it harbors. With the recruitment or refinery workers from the British Caribbean in the early 1900’s San Nicolaas developed its distinct Creol-flavor, including food, music, dialect and its designation as the birthplace of Aruba’s Carnaval.
San Nicolas’ artistic side has always been prominent. Experience a blast from the past on your visit to the Museum of Industry and discover what life in our industry looked like in yesteryears. Journeying from the hotels and Oranjestad toward San Nicolaas “sunrise city” of the island will take you through island communities that represent the typical lifestyle and culture of our locals.
