Wichita
Villacres, Owner and C.E.O. - Wichita started
her career in the worldwide shipping industry and moved
to Aruba in 1982. There she saw the need for a destination
management company in what was then the new industry of
tourism. With this in mind, she taught herself the business,
and by 1987, founded Eco Destination Management Services.
The Government of Aruba named Wichita ‘Woman of the Year’ in
1992 for making the island a true meeting and incentive destination,
a market which had never been fully realized before her efforts.
She continued to explore the possibilities on the island and in 1990
was recognized for her creativity by the Society of Incentive Travel
Executives (SITE) with two Crystal Awards, for Arubadam Night and
the Street Carnival Party, creative events that were organized for
incentive groups.
In addition to her involvement with her business and her family,
Wichita has demonstrated her concern and commitment to the betterment
of the industry and the community in many ways:
- Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association (AHATA) Board Member,
1993 – 1997
- Society of Incentive Travel Executives (SITE) Director, Caribbean
Chapter, 1994 – 1998 and Member
- Aruba Tourism Scholarship and Awards Foundation President,
1992 – 1998
- Meeting Professionals International (MPI) Member
- International Special Event Society (ISES) Member and Past
President
An inspiration to those that meet and work with her, Wichita strives
to become the best at whatever she sets out to do. Her commitment,
energy and dedication are an example to all. Wichita always states "no
mountain is too high to climb."
